Secondary Mathematics Educator

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Mathematics Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering culturally responsive teaching and be committed to fostering a supportive learning environment for Black students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and deliver mathematics lessons to secondary students (grades 8-12) according to the academy’s curriculum.
  • Provide individualized support to students, addressing specific learning needs and helping them improve their mathematical skills.
  • Develop and implement classroom activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, social emotional learning (SEL), and a love of learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Ontario Certified Teachers are preferred.

Secondary Science Curriculum Consultant

Role Overview

We are looking for a knowledgeable Science Curriculum Consultant to enhance our science programs. The successful candidate will integrate cultural perspectives into the curriculum, ensuring relevance and engagement for our students.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop science curriculum for secondary students (grades 9-12) in line with the academy's educational goals.
  • Create engaging lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that cater to diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Ensure that curriculum content promotes critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field.
  • Ontario Certified Teachers are preferred.

Program Volunteer

Role Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic Program Volunteers to support Roots to Routes Academy’s mathematics program for Black high-school learners. The successful candidates will provide hands-on tutoring and mentorship, foster a culturally responsive and encouraging learning space, and empower students to build confidence and deep conceptual understanding in mathematics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of Grade 9 and 10 mathematics lessons during virtual and in-person sessions
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to reinforce classroom concepts and build problem-solving skills
  • Monitor student progress, offer constructive feedback, and collaborate with Lead Educators on instructional strategies
  • Cultivate an inclusive, respectful environment that affirms Black identity and celebrates academic growth

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Grade 11 or 12, or pursuing post-secondary studies, with strong academic achievement in mathematics
  • A genuine interest in education, youth mentorship, and community empowerment
