Religious Education
Do you feel as though your child is uninterested in their studies?
Many parents have mentioned that their child — more so after the pandemic — is feeling lost or uninterested in their studies. They aren’t as engaged or as informed in the options they have for their future. Korina, a teacher at the TDSB, noticed this and decided to pursue a masters that focuses on how university graduates achieved success in their academics.

3 major outlets provided them strength throughout their educational journey
- Representation within their studies. What does that mean? They felt as if they were represented in their studies and could relate to the content being taught to them. In turn, this allowed them to connect and feel confident in their abilities to learn.
- Strong support system. These students expressed that their support system helped them through hardships. They not only had their family and friends, but some relied on their extracurricular activities to offload their frustrations at school. Some even fell back on their religion to help them find their way through their educational journey.
- Aware of their surroundings. This was the toughest to stomach. The unfortunate truth behind these students was their continuous perseverance despite the odds against them in the public education system. There is no secret behind their success. Only their commitment to prove that they were capable of overcoming the stereotypes that mistook their genuine ability and curiosity to learn.
So, what does that mean?
When a system doesn’t cater to your child, you create your own and this is what Korina did.
Korina, the co-founder of Roots to Routes Academy, was devastated that the students she interviewed were forced to be resilient to succeed. So, she has created a school where recognition and appreciation of all students are at the forefront.
